Sustainability

  • The sea farm serves as a shelter and nursery for fish and other marine life, which leads to enhanced populations and an increased biodiversity.
  • Mussels are filter feeders. They feed exclusively on natural nutrients from the sea and thus filter the water.
  • The sea farm uses recycled materials or materials produced in Belgium as much as possible.
  • Oceans and seas are one of the largest CO2 buffers on the planet. Mussels store CO2 in their shells and are thus part of the short-term carbon cycle.
  • For the safety of all seafarers, the cultivation zone is demarcated by special marker buoys.
